Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Tuku Buratai has threatened to drag Former APC deputy spokesman, Timi Frank for accusing him of being party to a plan to rig the 2019 General Elections.
Below is a statement from his Lawyer, Ugochukwu Osuagwu, made available to PoliticsNGR;
“I have read with dismay the allegation by former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, accusing Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, of meeting with the President Muhammadu Buhari and some members of his administration at midnight on Saturday with the aim of perfecting rigging strategies ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
Frank, in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST on Sunday, said he had incontrovertible evidence provided by sources in the know about the alleged nocturnal meeting between Yakubu, Buhari’s relative, Amina Zakari, General Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole and the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, at midnight of Saturday at the Defence House.
I must state at this point that this allegation is hollow and smacks of fake news. The allegation that LT Gen. T.Y Buratai held meeting with INEC Chairman to perfect election rigging is most outrageous and an attempt to soil the good reputation of LT Gen T.Y.Buratai whom I have known for close to 4 years as a gentleman and a man who respects the Law and due process. Timi Frank should be made to prove this allegation within 48 hours or be compelled to do so through legal action not limited to being invited by Law Enforcement Agencies to get him to prove this allegation.
Timi Frank should not let me expose him over certain infractions he was involved in few years back if I am pushed to the wall.
Timi Frank thus has 48 Hours within which he has to retract the defamatory statement he made of LT.Gen T.Y. Buratai on the false rigging plan allegation or face LEGAL ACTION.”
